A Freebie From My Kitchen: Momma’s Biscuits

I figured if I’m gonna give y’all a little taste of what lives over in Full Access, I should probably give you something you’ll actually make.

No seventeen-step pastry. No ingredient you have to order from a monastery in France.

Biscuits.

More specifically… Momma’s biscuits.

Makes 7–10 biscuits, depending on size.

2 cups sifted flour
6 tbsp frozen butter
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup cold milk

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Combine flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Mix until everything is incorporated.

If you’d like, save the salt, baking powder, and baking soda until after the butter has been cut in — but be sure everything gets mixed well.

Shred in the frozen butter.

Cut it into the flour with your hands or a fork until you have a sand-like consistency.

Pour in the cold milk and stir til no dry flour remains.

Do not overmix this. We’re not trying to build a house.

Dump onto a floured surface and press out with your hands to about 1½–2 inches thick. No roller needed, not for the biscuits anyway. Maybe for the husband.

Cut with a glass, mason jar ring, biscuit cutter, or whatever you choose. Press straight down instead of twisting.

Bake at 425°F for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown.
